Lost phone so bought new SIM can I change this SIM to old number?

Hi I had my phone stolen so bought new one and new SIM but want to retain the old number. Can I change the number of new SIM to that of the old one?

Am on £10 plan so had to buy £10 credit which literally lasted 5 minutes during a call which I find ridiculous
