Many articles (for instance, the latest issue of Which Tech) recommend that in order to prevent SIM swap fraud one should set up a password that must be provided to approve any account changes over the phone or online.
Of course, I have a login password to use to access my online account. But that does not help if Lebara allows SIM swap if a phone caller can provide enough details to convince a customer service personthat they are the genuine account holder.
So does Lebara let one set up a password to prevent this? If so, how? I know that there have been cases in the past where a swap was allowed because a fraudster had got hold of a user's details. I am not VERY worried that this could happen to me, but cosidering how important my phone number is I would be pleased to avoid even the small risk.
If Lebara doesn't do this (and the forum rules permit, which they may not), does anyone know of providers who can arrange this possibility.

Joined specifically to reply to this! This happened to my partner at the weekend. The hackers hacked his email account and so received the OTP and swapped from his physical SIM to eSIM using social engineering on the chat with his phone provider. They had name, address, DOB from the hacked email account so the eSIM swap was approved. A PIN or code not visible on the online account or something would at least stop this happening. Failing that, the option to use an authenticator? I know this is difficult if people have lost their phone or it has been stolen but perhaps for this they would need to do the ID verification process to complete the move. SIM swap is on the rise and it’s devastating as he how has 5 loans/cards in his name … all thanks to taking over his phone number and email. Please Lebara do something to improve security to stop this happening. As my number was in the emails etc I am just waiting for me to be next.

danco34, Goosie I have good news! The SIM swap process has been updated with 2 steps verification process online and with customer support agents. This should avoid any fraudulent activity in relation to the SIM swap process.

Oh my goodness! Thank you!!! Thank you so so much for listening!!! What will the two step process be? Just so we can understand what needs to be done and how this prevents someone impersonating the ID of someone ?

Scammers still looking for more victims. They phoned my husband earlier explaining they are upgrading SIM cards because of complaints with signal. Husband let his guard down so they got his name, DOB and address. Hopefully not the lebara login as under my account.
Lebara need to alert customers to scam urgently.
